WCCF News

Many new features coming soon to WCCF WebChess! Look for the changes in July when I am back from Holiday.

  • 8 player tournaments.

  • Teams with Team Matches between two Teams.

  • Thematic games and Tournaments.

  • A 'Live' module where you can play a timed game in one session.

Click Here to go to the WCCF WebChess

Please contact Nick if you would be interested in assuming the Newsletter duties.  Email Nick

And Nick has been adding Thematic Events to the WCCF Email Chess.  As you might have seen on the main WCCF page, you can create your own Thematic Events.  Play your favorite opening in an Event against other WCCF members.  It's educational....and fun!

Help - Translators Needed   WCCF is looking for volunteers to translate the WCCF website into other lanugages.  Please Email Nick if you would be able to help translate the WCCF website into your native language.

Help - PERL Programmer Needed   WCCF is looking for an experienced PERL programmer to help automate our databases.  This would involve linking the Results and Ratings databases to the Tables database so that entering a result into the Tables database will automatically update the Results and Ratings databases.  Please Email Nick if you are able to help.

Waiting Lists:  Event waiting lists can now be seen on the Tables page for the respective events.  Click on the 'Tables' drop-down menu at the top of any page on the website and then click on the Event type you are interested in seeing.  Note: Waiting Lists for Swiss Events can be seen on the Swiss Events page found on the 'Info' menu at the top of any page.

Note: WCCF Swiss Events will now be rated like other standard WCCF Events.

We have all had a good chuckle or two about the King's Game at one time or another.  Please share with the membership anything chess related that has amused or entertained you.  As the song says: "If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane!"  Please Email Me with anything you have to share.

Game of the Month

All New Look!  You can now play through all WCCF Games of the Month right here on the Newsletter page.  (Note: You must have Java enabled in your browser to see the viewer)

This month's WCCF Game of the Month is a collection of all of the games from the M-Tel Masters Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria where the top 6 players in the world competed.  Click the 'File Cabinet Icon below the chess board and choose M-Tel Masters.  Please Email Me to submit your interesting game.

  • Click the left and right arrow buttons to move through the game move by move.

  • Click the |< and >| buttons to move to the beginning or the end of the game.

  • Click the double up and down arrow to flip the board.

  • Click the up and down arrow buttons to choose a different game.

  • Select a move number in the move list on the left to go to a particular position.

That's all there is to it!

-------- Additionally --------

  • Click the 'Data' Tab in the upper left corner to see info about the game.

  • Click the 'Cmnt' Tab to see game comments and annotation (if any).

  • Click the 'About' Tab for information about the author of the viewer.

  • The 'File Cabinet' (lower left) Button displays a list of databases available. There is only one database there though, the one you are viewing....so you won't need this button.

  • The 'Refresh' (circle arrows) Button refreshes your current view.  You only need this button if the viewer is not displaying or working properly.

  • The 'Games' (chess board) Button displays a list of the games in the WCCF Game of the Month database.  It is easier, however, to choose the game you want to view by just using the up and down arrows.

  • If you need the Java Plug-in Module to be able to run this viewer, go to the JavaSun Website.

Have you had a particularly interesting chess game recently?  Something you would like to share with other members?  Maybe you arrived at a position that presents a good 'solve for mate' chess problem?  Please Email Me any game or position you would like included here, with or without annotation...in PGN format please.

Also, visit the Games Archive to view more WCCF games.

Member Forum

This section of the WCCF Newsletter is a place for member articles, editorials, rants, raves... anything you would like to share with the membership.  You may respond to something you read in the newsletter or submit your own topic.  Send anything you would like included in this section to the Newsletter Editor.

The Meeting Place is a list of fellow WCCF Members, their country and interests.  The idea is for this to be a place to find fellow chess enthusiasts who maybe share some of your other interests.  Or find someone from a country that interests you, or maybe someone from your own city that would like to have an over the board game with you.  Or you might meet someone you would like to request a match with right here on WCCF.  Whatever the reason, this will hopefully put a personal touch on our chess community.  You can chat via email, on WCCF Chat, or on the WCCF Message Board.

If you would like to participate, please fill out the form below and click submit.  I will add your name as soon as possible.  There are no required fields - fill in only information you would like to share.
